Angela Davis

It can NOT, and I mean- NOT- be a black history month without memorializing one of our favorite black activist, women activist, and authors. History shall not permit for us to neglect Angela Davis- a freedom fighter for us black men and women. Davis is an American political activist who is best known for her activities and ties as 1960’s leader of the Communist Party USA, as well as her close connections to the Black Panther Party.

The fro-bearing feminist co-founded Critical Resistance, a program stemming from her own personal defenses against police brutality during the Civil Rights movement. Her program Critical Resistance sought to abolish the prison- industrial complex.

Since her days of being on the front lines fighting for our rights, she has since then returned to teaching. She is a professor at University of California, where she works as a lecturer of history of consciousness. Davis has also authored several books including her most famous, Women, Race, and Class (1980).
